Hawken Closed Beta Event

Uncategorized 0 No Comments

Hawken is a mech combat game that I’ve been waiting to play for a while now. Since Mechwarrior Online looks like it is going to be pretty shitty, this is the shining beacon of hope for mech games.

I have the privilege of participating in the first closed beta event this weekend, and since there’s no NDA, I’ll make sure to fraps some gameplay and bitch about shit I don’t like about the game.

HAWKEN’s first Closed Beta event is right around the corner! The event starts around 12:00 PM on October 26 and runs until Monday evening, October 29 at 11:59 PM. All times are in Pacific Daylight Time (-8 GMT). To join this event, grab a code from one of the many giveaways we’re holding this week on partner websites. If you participated in Alpha 2, you’re all set and do not need to redeem a new code. There is no non-disclosure agreement for the Closed Beta events; we encourage you to capture footage and screenshots of your battles and share them. Please remember that the Alpha 2 NDA remains in effect.

How do I get into the Closed Beta?
Got your Closed Beta code? Log into your account (or create one!) on the PlayHawken.com website. In the upper right corner is the Redeem Code link. Click that and enter your code. If the code is legit, you will be taken to the download client page with full details on the event. Click the DOWNLOAD CLIENT button to begin downloading the client. If you have the Alpha 2 client, you’ll need to uninstall it before you install the Closed Beta client.

What if I was in Alpha 2?
If you participated or were invited to participate in Alpha 2, your HAWKEN account has already been flagged for access to Closed Beta. You do not need to redeem a Closed Beta code, please forward any you find to other eager players! Instead, log into your account and click the ENTER BETA button on the PlayHawken.com website, then follow the instructions to download the client.

We’ll be introducing a new forum section just for Closed Beta including News, Discussion, Suggestions, Support, and Bug Reports subforums. This forum will be readable by all but you’ll need to be in Closed Beta to post in them. Expect this new section shortly!

DIablo 3 Clones Already Be Creepin’

Uncategorized 0 No Comments

Capitalizing on The Avengers‘ mega-success, it was only natural that Marvel would attempt to “Scrooge McDuck” its marketable characters in the most profitable ways possible. In the gaming world, the big-business these days is in “free-to-play” with the option for micro-transactions. In the real world, it’s called “Kardashian” with the option of sperm deposits.

In an earlier piece, I advocated for the notion that Blizzard has effectively blurred the lines between an MMO and the single-player action-RPG with Diablo 3. A week after D3′s launch, Marvel has already announced an “MMO action-RPG” of their own: Marvel Heroes.

Have you ever wanted to play as your favorite Marvel character, but felt that their powers and abilities were just better suited to stagnant overhead views and walking in straight lines? I mean forget flying around — FINALLY a game that understands what we all want: Black Widow with an equitable chance to min-max her way to the (on) top.

Take My Money!*
