Uncategorized 0 No Comments

An update on an update for an update about an update that was needed at release.

The Diablo III developers have been hard at work on some exciting new features and updates for the game. Many of you have asked for more details, and we’re busily preparing several developer blogs filled with information on what’s coming in patch 1.0.4. In the meantime, here’s an overview of the information we’re planning to share here on the Diablo III community site in the not-too-distant future.

Please keep in mind that this list isn’t set in stone, but it should provide a useful preview of what we’ll be revealing in the days ahead.

  • System Changes, by Wyatt Cheng
Senior Technical Game Designer Wyatt Cheng is preparing a high-level summary of some of the system changes planned for 1.0.4.

  • Legendary Item Improvements, by Andrew Chambers
Senior Game Designer Andrew Chambers is working on a blog detailing all the ways we’re making Legendary items stand out.

  • Magic Find Update, by Jay Wilson
Following up on earlier discussions, Game Director Jay Wilson will be providing an update on how Magic Find is evolving in patch 1.0.4.

  • Class Changes, by Wyatt Cheng
Wyatt will also be providing a preview of the changes we’ll be making for each class in 1.0.4 (and the philosophy behind those changes).

  • Patch Notes, by Lylirra
Of course, this is all building up to the actual patch 1.0.4 release, and we’ll be releasing the full patch notes shortly before the update goes live.

We’re also planning to run some interviews and developer chats surrounding patch 1.0.4, and we’ll be sharing those on the Diablo III front page. Be on the lookout, as we’d love to get you involved in any live chats we host.

As always, your constructive feedback is very much appreciated. Stay tuned for the updates to follow!

Blizzard Admits Diablo 3 Sucks

Uncategorized 0 No Comments

In a stunning revelation, Blizzard acknowledges that Diablo 3 was released with no end game and that they had no idea what they were doing for the last 12 years.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/6019511928#17

We recognize that the item hunt is just not enough for a long-term sustainable end-game. There are still tons of people playing every day and week, and playing a lot, but eventually they’re going to run out of stuff to do (if they haven’t already). Killing enemies and finding items is a lot of fun, and we think we have a lot of the systems surrounding that right, or at least on the right path with a few corrections and tweaks. But honestly Diablo III is not World of Warcraft. We aren’t going to be able to pump out tons of new systems and content every couple months. There needs to be something else that keeps people engaged, and we know it’s not there right now.

We’re working toward 1.0.4, which we’re really trying to pack with as many fixes and changes we can to help you guys out (and we’ll have a bunch of articles posted with all the details as we get closer), and we’re of course working on 1.1 with PvP arenas. I think both those patches will do a lot to give people things to do, and get them excited about playing, but they’re not going to be a real end-game solution, at least not what we would expect out of a proper end-game. We have some ideas for progression systems, but honestly it’s a huge feature if we want to try to do it right, and not something we could envision being possible until well after 1.1 which it itself still a ways out…

Hindsight is 20/20 I suppose, but we believed pre-release that the item hunt would be far more sustainable, and would work to be a proper end-game for quite a while. That didn’t turn out to be true, and we recognize that.

Disappointment With Diablo 3

This guy drops a full-on pedigree of his nerdlineage and impresses even me; I thought I was a bad ass, but this guy makes me look like a huge newb.

BEEN A GAMER SINCE 1983..AND..

I started with a coleco-vision. I had a TRS-80 color computer as my first personal pc. I moved up to the Atari 2600 then the 5200, then intellivision. It went on and on thru the xbox 360 and onto a decent pc. So, I’m 40 years old and have been gaming 28 plus years. I have NEVER ever felt more punished by a game in my life. I’ve been in wow, so I’ve seen nerfs, buffs, and more nerfs to content. Yeah I’ve been dismayed at how oversimplified wow has become. Thats why I stopped raiding and just made a nice, casual coffee clutch guild that has succeeded since inception. My point? I’ve dealt with a lot over the years, but never, ever felt as whipped as I do by Diablo 3 and all the nerfs and crap excuses they’ve thrown at us. I too waited YEARS to play this game. I have been talking it up to my kids and wife since 2009. I’m disgusted. I’m hurt. I’m freaking pissed! I have a right to be

This Guy Finished Act1, Cries Over Stupid Shit

I love release day.

Before I get jumped on : This is not saying IM QUITTING OR OMG I HATE YOU BLIZZ, etc etc.

These are just some of my thoughts after finishing ACT I [ which may or may not apply to the entirety of the game.. but at least one of my complaints is directed at the game in general ]

Graphics :

I am majorly disappointed in this regard. This game has graphics which are essentially no better than what you could have found in a game 5 years ago. There is no innovation, no jawdropping amazement. Everything is rather predictable and dare I say.. average.

Also – the weapon glow enchantments for various effects are laughable. Oh cool my weapon slightly glows a different color.. and on some weapons you almost can’t even see the glow effect.

Sounds :

Again, I will rank this as rather average. The sounds , especially music.. just feels mediocre.

Skill mapping / usage system

It blows. Being forced to lock in skills into slots and then having to swap them anytime you want to change is a pain in the !@#$. . Terrible. I shouldn’t have to ‘relock’ a skill through an annoying UI so I can use cleave instead of bash on my left click for AOE.. and then have to swap back for a boss fight. It signifies a downgade and dare I say a dumbing down / casualification compared to Diablo II where you could map various skills with hotkeys to swap between skills [ and they were still used with left click / right click ].

This is my biggest issue with the game at the moment. I feel extremely limited in combat mechanics. It is basically left left left right left.. maybe hit a number key. repeat Except instead of being able to swap skills on the fly with hotkeys it is nothing but the same skills spammed repeatedly….. In D2 you could quickly flip thru and chain skills together like Whirlwind->Frenzy->skill-> …. actually have smooth combat flipping thru abilities that I wanted to use when I wanted to do so.

Please for the love of god patch a better system in for this.

No real character customization

While it is true that this is not an MMO, it is still a multi-player capable game.
As such there should have been a character customization grid.. Not necessarily up to MMO standards.. but when solo player games allow you to customize your character’s looks ( hair, face, sometimes body size, etc etc ) more than a multiplayer game… that is pretty sorry and shows a lack of effort by Blizzard.

A Post From April 2013 About Diablo3

This came to me backchannel through my main man Sananab. There were lots of other messages about shit that happens in the future, but I thought this was the most important one.

FROM: JOHN TITOR

TO: PAINKILLER

Yo man. I figured you could appreciate this as I know how much you are anticipating Diablo 3. The game will struggle until the summer of 2014 and will be shut down when Blizzard is acquired by EA. Enjoy the fun while it lasts.

Blizzard Entertainment, I am dissapoint.  I have been a loyal fan since the original warcraft.  With every new game I watched you push the envelope in computer gaming, always delivering a great prouduct at an honest price.  But now having played diablo 3 im just sick to my stomach.  After farming for Weeks on end I cant get the axe of ultimate pwnage to drop.  Thats ok ill check the ah, 500$.  Wtf blizzard!? Seriously? I check the ah every day and have never seen it for gold, only real money.  But as you take a cut from this I bet you are perfecfly fine with it.  This is unacceptable.  If you want to not get shitblasted in pvp you need that axe, but the only way to get it is farm nostop for months or pay a ton of real money, no one will sell it for gold.  I just want to play the game, I didnt sign up for pay for power.  I thought you were better than this, but clearly all you care about
is money.  Its sad to see such a great company fall so far.
