Long story short, there were some wires that got crossed after I won the auction.
The resolution:

The cat was not included in what they sent

Wow, wtf?? They sent me the full run of X-O #1; all the variants, one signed by Robert Venditti, and the gold edition that I actually won.
They also sent me a full run of #2 and #3, AND the trade paperback from X-O classic.

Big, huge, uber props to Valiant and Adam Freeman for going above and beyond the call of duty and proving to this old nerd that Valiant Entertainment is still the greatest comic book company of all time.
